Most Companies Are Not Human-Centered
HR as the maintenance department for human machines, and the three things people need to be at their best.

Most companies I encounter are not human-centered.
They operate with the industrial mindset, and people are largely treated as objects (machines). HR is the maintenance department, fixing the machines when they break or keeping them well oiled so they last longer.
Companies that want to push the envelope of what's possible must realize that humans need three things to be at their best:
- Great relationships
- The opportunity to grow and learn while working
- A sense of control over what, how, and when they work
Companies that manage people as humans will find success on the edge. Companies that manage people as machines might still deliver predictable value in a known space. But let's stop pretending they actually care about their people.
